Write Up:

The park certainly isn't new to any of us, but our route today was different from our weekly Thursday morning hikes, and the pace was a bit more leisurely. We completed the lollipop loop and then hiked up the inner trail to the middle parking lot. From there, we headed down to the river, stopped at the Visitor Center, and then walked along the river trail for some views of the Chattahoochee. 5.3 miles was just fine for us on this chilly December morning.

We were privy to an interesting site.  We saw a squirrel run off the trail and into a hollow stump.  We walked to the stump, peered in, and we could see its fur!  We were intruigued, especially since we could hear little squirrel squeaks coming from the stump.  As we watched, TWO large squirrels jumped out of the stump and ran into the woods.  I suspect some baby squirrels will be coming from those two this spring. ~ Joyce
