Write Up:

Stellar Peak bagging hike to summits of Horsetrough mountain and Spaniards Knob. Awesome group of six AOC  hikers braved the cold and windy morning to successfully bag these two peaks. Jacks knob trail from Jacks gap to the AT, to start. We spent very little time at Chattahoochee gap due to resembling a 20F deg wind tunnel. Otherwise, marvelous day from both vantage points, with clear views due to winter conditions. Spaniard’s double peak ascent from Red Clay Gap off the AT was far easier than Horsetrough due to the absence of briers and snow. Briers on Horsetrough made it a tough slog and extra challenging. After both peaks, we returned to the AT, a few bumps later retracing our steps on the AT and Jacks knob we reached back to our cars. A few of the group decided not to ascend the optional Brasstown summit trail but those who did also enjoyed spectacular views from a near cloudless sky from Georgia’s highest peak.
