The drive to Waleska was well worth it! The weather cleared up beautifully by the time we started our hike, and overcast skies eventually gave way to bright sunshine. We even caught a mild breeze on some of the trails!

We hiked 7 miles with just short of 1,000 feet of elevation. There are 14 miles of trails in the park, so we hiked just half of what was available. The trails were heavily covered with leaves, obliterating the rocks and occasional piles of horse poop. I was very happy that no one tripped or fell!

The pictures give a hint of the beautiful color the trails presented. I wish these trails were closet to home!

The Friends of Garland Mountain host workdays each month on the second Saturday to maintain the trails. Their efforts have kept the trails in good shape, and the signage is excellent throughout the park.

Six of us were able to stay for lunch in the pavilion next to the parking lot. It was a great way to end today's hike. ~ Joyce
