We happily turned our 8-day/90-mile/D6/ shorts hike into an 8-day/114 mile/30,000 foot elevation gain/ rain pants hike as a D7. Little tweaks along the way and no rest days made all the difference for this to happen (plus pizza, pasta, BBQ, and burgers).
All but Fay hiked 100-114 miles. Despite having a big toe blister that stayed with her from Atlanta she ws able to tough it for 80 miles and be our inspiration. That distance with that blister is still a D7 in my book.
Everyone has a trail name now along with their favorite summit music and dance and I am sure that helped. Walnut had long stories for us during the climbs and you can never go wrong iwth that. Lampshade is fired up to do it again (and again and again). After all, it is the AT.
