Thu, Apr 17 2025 - Mt. Guyot Peak Bagging (View Original Event Details)
|
The weather was warmer than expected, making us comfortable and the views somewhat hazy. We were able to pick out Mt. Guyot towering among peaks in the distance, but we had a change in plans and cut our hike a day short without doing the peak bags. All was good. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking along the amazing ridgelines of this section of the Appalachian Trail. The route took us from Newfound Gap to an elevation of a little over 6000 feet. For the entire hike we stayed at an elevation over 5000 feet, with our starting point of Newfound Gap as the low point at 5049 feet.
We were in the good company of many Appalachian Trail Thru-hikers and a group of 6 from a service organization that took Veterans and First Responders on hiking adventures. There were only 3 of us representing the AOC, and we got along fantastically, though we couldn't agree on sleeping arrangements. Mark opted to snore snooze in the shelter with a dozen or so of his newest stranger friends, Chuck opted to hang hammock in the trees, while Jim nestled in his cozy tent.
