Sat, Jun 13 2026 - KMNBP Trails Workday - New Bridge on Kolb’s Farm East Trail (View Original Event Details)
| ![]() |
We parked at the parking lot next to the Illinois Monument and walked to worksite at the new bridge across John Ward Creek on the Kolb Farm East Trail. We split into two groups. One group with Michael, a park ranger, operating a Bobcat spread GAB (Graded Aggregate Base) on the trail leading to the bridge and used the GAB to fill in low spots on the trail on the other side of the bridge. The second group worked on removing the short old bridge over a creek feeding into John Ward Creek. Members of both groups moved the old bridge parts back to stagging area for the park to pick up on Sunday. With 9 volunteers, 9 crew leaders, and 2 park employees. We spread 4 dump truck loads of GAB (about 16,000 lbs.) and removed the old bridge, finishing early.
