Write Up:After several days of suffering through the heat over the past few weeks, the temperatures
finally cooled down today! It turned out to be the perfect day of Labor Day weekend for our
hike from Jack’s Gap to Brasstown Bald, especially after the brutally hot and humid Saturday
and Sunday.
The fog rolled in almost as soon as we started climbing. It drizzled for most of the hike, but
thankfully the tree cover kept us mostly protected from the rain.
Seeing the Brasstown Bald parking lot almost completely empty was quite surprising. With
the cloud cover blocking the usual 360-degree views from the summit, the crowds were
nowhere to be found—which actually made the experience feel extra special.
We had lunch by the visitor center, where it was little bit chilly. Good preview for the
upcoming Fall season. It was also first time hiking to the top of Brasstown Bald for many
people.
Strava numbers show 7.44 miles and 2259 ft elevation gain.
Despite the challenging climb, we all had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the hike. A
cool, misty Brasstown Bald on Labor Day turned out to be a pretty perfect way to end the
long weekend! 🥾🌲🌫️
