The weather certainly cooperated on our trek to the highest summit on the AT in Georgia.  And it was nice to see some snow at the top.  The group made great time as we hiked our way up past Slaughter Creek.  From the trail, we could see snow covering the slope of Blood Mountain well below our elevation. When we reached the junction with the AT, our footing got a little treacherous, and as we made our way to the top of Blood Mountain, the icy path led to a lot of slipping and sliding.  But we made it on a gorgeous, sunny February afternoon.  It's hard to top the vistas from our lunch spot, on the big rock next to the shelter.  A few of us meandered over to the east side of the mountain where we were treated to a view of Mt. Yonah.  The trip back down the trail was even more treacherous, particularly those of us without hiking poles, but everyone managed to get down in one piece.  At the junction, we turned left and travelled along the AT for about 2 miles before we reached the junction with Jarrard Gap.  From there it was an easy hike down to the parking lot at Lake Winfield Scott.  Thanks to all of you for joining us.  Many of us had an early dinner at the Village Tavern in Alpharetta.  Hope to see you all again on an event soon.
