Write Up:
One couldn't have asked for better weather or a better group.  This brilliant yet cool (60F) sunny day saw 10 of us receiving a generous layer of dirt on our cars as we drove far into the remote Cohuttas. We now bear the marks of the bushwhack struggle to gain the fabulous elusive summit of Cowpen Mountain in all its thicketed glory. Following this wonderful triumph, we descended rapidly to a comfortable lunch at the top of scenic Panther Falls.

Flowers like dwarf irises and trillium were sprinkled about among many other smaller flowers. The growing foliage was just getting into the swing of it near the top, and fiddleheads were starting to unfurl. Tiny grasshoppers were so numerous about the trail that their attempts to escape an early booted demise sounded like a light rain. The birds were vocal most of the day, but the only large fauna spotted were a friendly group of horses packing riders to get more exercise.

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful hike!
