Wow!  What a hike and what a day!  The weather was perfect for any activity.

A total of 9 rugged AOC hikers showed up for this rugged hike.  We parked at the top of Amicalola Falls then hit the AT approach right at 10:00 am.  It was cool and crisp as we hiked 8.1 miles and reached Springer mountain in less than 3 hours.  We stopped off at an AT shelter along the way.  Once at Springer, we relaxed and had a nice lunch, admiring the pleasant view and the bronze plaques marking the beginning of the AT.

After resting and re-fueling, we headed back towards Amicalola, but instead took the loop towards Len Foote Hike Inn, which was about 3 miles.  Once there, we took a brief rest and enjoyed cookies, sweet tea, lemonade and coffee for a quick re-charge.

We then quickly hit the final stretch of 5.5 miles and returned to the parking lot right at 5:00 pm.  The hike was definitely a challenge, as we all felt the tiredness in our feet and legs as we sat in the parking lot and relaxed.

We decided to not to eat dinner, but piled back in our vehicles for the quick 1 hour drive back to Atlanta.

We will definitely do this one again.  Keep an eye out for it!
