Write Up:

With most of the other activities being cancelled for the day, I truly thought this would be a character building hike.  It turns out, the main character building exercise was simply the willingness to do it… We even had a late Friday evening registrant, David, saying, “Hey, I’m crazy, I want to join THAT circus!”

Our 17-mile excursion at Woody Gap began with a little drizzle, but soon gave way to a nice layer of fog that remained for the rest of the day.  We made it to the Blood Mountain shelter, and 9-miles, a few minutes after 12:00 for lunch where we encountered Mr. Chatham and Mr. Stirman and their group of diehards.  We were also able to take a break at the Neel’s Gap store where we all purchased “Our Cool Hiker Friends and Family did 17-miles on the AT and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt” t-shirts to give to friends and family.  We made it to Hogpen Gap right at 5:00 to our awaiting vehicles and chocolate chip cookies.

Special thanks to Tony T. (who as able to log another 22-miles) and my dad who made the car shuttle seamless.
