Sat, May 11 2013 - Beat the Rain Hike (Cochran Shoals to Sibley Pond and back (View Original Event Details)

Trip Leader(s): David M
Participants:David M, Joe, Jasmine, Henley, Clay White

Write Up:

The weather turned out to perfect for the five of us that signed up and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Cochran Shoals National Park.  Some saw Sope Creek for the first time and enjoyed the wide, rushing whitewater views and the old mill across the stream.  For four of us it was the first time to see the old Civil War cemetery in the middle of the park.  We paid our respects to a family with 2 young children (who died at 17 mos and 19 mos) and an MD father who died in the middle of the Civil War at age 41, and a few others who died after the war at a relatively young age.

What a beautiful day for a hike exploring the beauty of this in town park.

Joe took some pictures, the 2 dogs got used to each other after a little time, and all had fun enjoying the outdoors and meeting new friends.  Thank you Joe, Henley, Jasmine and Clay for joining me on this hike.
