This was absolutely a great day on Lake Allatoona.  It was like a mini-camping weekend stuffed into one gorgeous and lazy Monday afternoon!

Six of us met at the boating landing near Red Top Mountain in Cartersville where Billy Gewin brought his boat and trailer.  We loaded up some food, a small grill, hiking gear and off we went.

We first trekked across the lake and parked near Pine Mountain.  From there we disembarked and bushwacked a very short distance to one of the Trailheads.  From there, it was a moderate up and down hike to the peak of Pine Mountain.  A good clear day offered spectacular views of the Atlanta skyline and Lake Allatoona.  After resting for a bit and snapping some photos, we proceeded back to the boat.

Next we chugged across the lake and watched other boaters, admired the view of the dam and marina, and eventually found a nice little alcove with a sandy bank.  We docked the boat along the beach, unloaded our food and small grill and all chipped in various meats for dinner, including salmon, flounder, tilapia and of course John's healthy Bratwursts!

We chowed down some protein, sipped on cool beverages and then went for a nice relaxing swim.  After swimming for about an hour, we gathered around a small fire, enjoyed some smores and laughs and Billy's music as we all stuggled to remember song lyrics.

Eventually, the sun set and the stars became more and more visible.  Once it was dark, we finally agreed it was time to go home, so we loaded up the boat around 10:00 pm, putt-putted across the dark lake and enjoyed the starrry night sky at a nice slow pace.  We got back to the dock safely and headed home.

All in all it was a special day and I hope to do it again soon.
